Mathematics

SAGE
SAGE is free open source math software that supports research and teaching in algebra, geometry, number theory, cryptography, numerical computation, and related areas. Includes Maxima, Singular, PARI, Matplotlib and other opensource math packages. You can use internet interface (sage-notebok) to access all the features (needs Firefox).

Maxima
Maxima is a system for the manipulation of symbolic and numerical expressions, including differentiation, integration, Taylor series, Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, systems of linear equations, polynomials, and sets, lists, vectors, matrices, and tensors. Maxima yields high precision numeric results by using exact fractions, arbitrary precision integers, and arbitrarily precision floating point numbers. Maxima can plot functions and data in two and three dimensions.

TuxMath
Tux, of Math Command ("TuxMath," for short) is an educational arcade game. Based on the classic arcade game "Missile Command," Tux, the Linux mascot, must defend his cities. In this case, though, he must do it by solving math problems.

k3dsurf
K3DSurf is a program to visualize and manipulate Mathematical models in three, four, five and six dimensions. K3DSurf supports Parametric equations and Isosurfaces. It makes mathematics fun.

Xaos
XaoS is an interactive fractal zoomer. It allows the user to continuously to zoom in or out of a fractal in a fluid, continuous motion. This capability makes XaoS great for exploring fractals, and it’s just plain fun!

Physics – Chemistry

PhET
Fun, interactive simulations of physical phenomena.

Molecular Workbench
The goal of the NSF-funded Molecular Workbench has been to provide a rich environment that makes the atomic level familiar, predictable, and connected with the macroscopic world, and to understand the effect of such an environment on student learning.

Astronomy

Stellarium
Planetarium shows a realistic 3D sky in your computer. Just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope, it is being used in planetarium projectors.

kstars

Celestia
You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. The exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.

Simbrain
IMBRAIN is a free tool for building, running, and analyzing neural-networks (computer simulations of brain circuitry). Simbrain aims to be as visual and easy-to-use as possible. Unique features of Simbrain include its integrated "world components" and its ability to represent a network's state space.

Design

Dalinai išversta į lietuvių kalbąDia
Dia is roughly inspired by the commercial Windows program 'Visio', though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

QCAD
QCad is an application for computer aided drafting in two dimensions (2d). With QCad you can create technical drawings such as plans for buildings, interiors, mechanical parts or schemas and diagrams.

QGIS
Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS). QGIS lets you browse and create map data on your computer. It supports many common spatial data formats (e.g. ESRI ShapeFile, geotiff)
